At Jolimont Primary, in line with the Australian Curriculum, we are committed to developing a sustainable school through sustainability education which is futures-oriented, focusing on protecting environments and creating a more ecologically and socially just world through informed action. Through partnerships with the community we aim to embed sustainability practices within the culture of our school community.
Through on-going programs, we will build capacities for thinking and acting in ways that are necessary to create a more sustainable future to promote reflective thinking processes in young people and empower them to design action that will lead to a more equitable and sustainable future.
We are implementing the Department of Education’s Sustainable Schools – WA initiative which provides two key aspects of sustainability: Ecological Footprint and Social Handprint.
Jolimont Primary School Business Plan 2021-2024: Sustainability is captured through two focus areas: Student Learning, Achievement and Well-Being and Enriched Community Partnerships. The Strategic Pillars which aim to best foster sustainability in our school are:
- strengthening student voice
- enhance opportunities for our students through community partnerships
We are committed to building a sustainable school which is aligned with the Sustainable Schools-WA initiative, in order to decrease our school’s ecological footprint and increase our school’s social handprint.
Containers for Change
The school has recently registered with Containers for Change. This means that we are able to collect and return empty drink containers for the 10 cent refund. Hopefully this will be a great fundraising opportunity for us, as the community is also able to donate their refunds to the school, by using our Scheme ID when returning containers. We are also planning on becoming a collection point for the community to return empty containers to, for us to claim the refund. If you would like to donate your refund to Jolimont PS when you are returning your containers, please use our Scheme ID: C10465896. For more information, please see Containers for Change link here.
